THANE: The Thane crime branch has seized Rs 46 lakh scrapped currency notes of 500 and 1000 denomination from Naupada area.
The cash was found inside an abondened car and it was based on a tip-off that the police found the cash but couldn't find any owner. Presently, the police area trying to find the owner of the car and the income-tax may take over the probe, said an official.
"The verification of the car and cash seized is underway and after which the source and consignee will be ascertained," said an official.
The incident has once again exposed the racket prevalent after
demonetisation who are exchanging the old currency notes with a commission as high as 40-50 percent.
