Meanwhile Amrita Sharma, a 28-year-old Hiranandani Estate resident, said, “The past few weeks have witnessed lesser accidents and the traffic has been smooth flowing, which I believe is mainly because of the less rains, which has made commuting to work so much easier.”
Weathermen predict that this wet spell will be short lived and the intensity of the monsoon will reduce once again within 48 hours.
“Over the past few weeks there have been fluctuating bouts of showers because of the weakening of the offshore trough which was moving towards Kerala and Goa from Gujarat and the low atmospheric pressure over Gujrat, were the key factors for the heavy rain showers over the past few weeks. This also reduced the wind,” said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist at skymetweather.com.
“While the situation is still the same, the Thane, Dahanu and the north western coast is witnessing rainfall because of a new cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea. Once this circulation subsides, the short and scattered bursts of rains will continue. This phase of heavy showers should come to an end by August 16, after which the heavy rains will move to the south Konkan and Goa belt,” he added.
