‘‘I was confident of being selected for the Buchi Babu tournament, but making me the vice-captain of the team came as a surprise. The selection took place during the ongoing off-season Mumbai Ranji camp. I will be assisting skipper Eknath Kerkar, who is also the wicket-keeper,’’ said the 20-year-old.
Akhil is also part of the 27-member Mumbai Ranji off-season camp. He was part of the under-19 world cup wherein India won the match in 2012. His performance has attracted the attention of selectors from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). This Thane poster boy represented India at the under-19 tri-series cricket championship, in Australia, in 2013. He was awarded the best junior cricketer for 2010-11 by MCA.
