Carpenter held for taking extortion money of Rs 50,000 from developer in Ulhasnagar

THANE: A carpenter has been arrested by Thane Anti Extortion Cell for taking extortion money of Rs 50k from a developer in Ulhasnagar. The accused Shantaram Shelke is associated with a kamgar union had complained against developer Sandeep Gaikwad's construction going on at Ulhasnagar claiming it to be illegal.

Shelke had complained about the same to Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation demanding its demolition. To avoid action by UMC, Shelke was demanding extortion money from Gaikwad about which he had complained to Thane's Anti Extortion Cell.

Acting on complaint of Gaikwad, Anti Extortion Cell's team led by Shekhar Bagade on Tuesday led trap and finally nabbed Shelke red handed while accepting extortion money.
