Municipal Corporation (TMC) and ruling Shiv Sena raising questsions over the manner in which the general body was conducted on Saturday.

Alleging foul play in the proceedings wherein last minute proposals were pushed in the already loaded agenda of the general body meeting, the BJP and NCP are now planning to seek intervention of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in reining in the apparent high-handedness of the administration and the ruling Shiv Sena that blatantly passed over 350 proposals without any debates.

The first half of the meeting saw an intense debate between the commissioner and NCP leader Milind Patil over the recently conducted drives against hawkers following which civic chief Sanjeev Jaiswal and his team of officials staged a walkout from the house leaving the netas baffled. The proceedings resumed after intervention of a few netas but left corporators, including Mayor Meenakshi Shinde fuming over the turn of events.

As the meeting proceeded, around 392 plus 81 last minute proposals were apparently sanctioned without allowing any type of lawful demand for discussion on any subject drawing ire of the opposition and members of the BJP who have now decided to approach Fadnavis to stay these approvals.

"This has become a habitual modus operandi of the Sena and TMC to hastily approve projects without discussions,” said BJP corporator Milind Patankar, who is likely to meet Fadnavis with his 22 party representatives over the issue.

Leader of opposition Milind Patil also expressed surprise at the manner in which the ruling party was not heeding to any request from the NCP members who sought a debate on few projects in the agenda.
