VNSGU senate member files petition in HC against appointments

SURAT: A senate member of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has filed a special civil application in Gujarat High Court against faculty and administrative appointments in the university.
Justice MR Shah recently issued notices to vice-chancellor and five others in the matter while fixing the next date of hearing for November 11.
Petitioner Guarang Vaidya submitted that there were irregularities in the appointments of three candidates in the Department of Comparative Literature and Department of English and as deputy registrar."The irregularities were brought to the notice of vice-chancellor but no action was taken," he submitted.
In his application, Vaidya has submitted that Mukesh Vasava, the candidate appointed as a faculty in the Department of Comparative Literature does not have required educational qualification. Vasava does not have a PhD degree. Besides, he has neither cleared National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) to be eligible for the lecturer's post, the petitioner has submitted. As many as 23 candidates had applied for the post among whom many were having the requisite qualifications but were not appointed, he has alleged.
Similarly in the case of Mihir Mori, lecturer in the Department of English, the minimum required qualification for the position was not adhered to, Vaidya has alleged. Modi too does not have a PhD degree, the application states.
The minimum experience criterion was not considered before appointing Kaniyalal Patel as deputy registrar, the application states.
Several attempts were made to reach vice-chancellor BA Prajapati, but to no avail since he was in a meeting.
