'Injected anaesthetic drug': Two college friends die by suicide inside Gujarat temple washroom; used ChatGPT to find ways, say cops
SURAT: Two college girls, aged 18 and 20, allegedly ended their lives by injecting themselves with anaesthetic drugs inside the washroom of a temple in Saniya village on the city's outskirts.
Police found medicine vials and syringes near their bodies late on Friday night.
No suicide note has been recovered so far, and initial questioning of family members did not reveal any immediate reason for the extreme step.
During preliminary investigation, police found images and ChatGPT search history on their mobile phones suggesting they had searched for ways to commit suicide using drugs. An image of a news article about a woman who died by suicide using an anaesthetic drug was also found on one of the phones.
Childhood friends Roshni Sirsath and Josna Chaudhary, both residents of the Dindoli area, had left home for college on Friday morning but did not return. Their families approached the police for help later in the day.
"Since their mobile phones were active, police traced their location to Saniya village. Around 9.30pm, family members located the scooter of one of the girls outside the Atmiya Sanskar Dham Swaminarayan Temple and began searching the campus," said N P Gohil, Assistant Commissioner of Police.
CCTV footage showed the girls entering the washroom at around 7.44am. The door was locked from inside, forcing family members to break it open. Police found one empty vial, three vials containing the drug, and three syringes near their bodies.
Their mobile phones have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination.
Sirsath was taken to New Civil Hospital, while Chaudhary was taken to SMIMER Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Chaudhary was a second-year BCom student at Wadia Women's College, while Sirsath was a first-year BCom student at Udhna Citizen Commerce College.
"The girls usually went to college in the morning and returned home in the afternoon. When they did not come back and did not answer calls, the family approached the police in the evening," Gohil said.
