SURAT: Becoming a doctor was
Shreya Patel's childhood dream. But she found it unbelievable that she had secured first position in medical admission in state. Shreya is first in the merit list of 2012-13 admissions for medical colleges in the state.
She speaks less but performs much, her family members believe.
"She achieved this distinction with the high scores in both state board exam and GujCET," said her father Satish Patel, an associate professor at political science department in Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU).
Satish credits hard work for his daughter's success.
Shreya scored 96 marks in biology, 100 in physics and 98 in chemistry in board exam while her score was 117.50 out of 120 in GujCET. Her GujCET percentile rank was 99.99. Her total score of board and GujCET is 97.96, which is considered for the merit list and it was highest in state.
"I wanted to prepare for
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) but there were number of exams I had to appear for and wanted to secure admission in one institute first. But after completion of my MBBS I will try to get admission in any of the leading medical institutes like AIIMS. I wish to study surgery and achieve super specialization in gynaecology," said Shreya.
For better concentration on her studies, Shreya's mother Anjana quit her job as school teacher. "We decided to focus on our children's study and my wife agreed to leave her job. We want Shreya to study up to super specialisation and do research," said Satish.
