SURAT: A 10-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after he got stuck in an elevator between two floors of Emporium Galaxy residential apartment in Utran on Monday.

Sources in the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) fire and emergency department stated that the boy, identified as Vansh Paresh Savani, got stuck between the 5th and 6th floor of the B-Wing of the 12-storey building at about 1pm. The elevator, in which he was coming down, developed a technical snag and stopped mid-way.

Following the incident, the boy started screaming for help from inside the elevator. The residents tried to rescue him for about an hour and finally decided to call the fire department.

BK Solanki, the fire officer of Mota Varachha fire station told TOI, “As soon as we received the call from control room, we rushed to Emporium Galaxy to rescue the boy. I always carry the tools to open the stuck elevators. In this case, it took just five minutes for me to open the elevator’s front door and rescue the boy.”

Solanki added, “The boy was terrified as he was inside the dark lift for more than an hour. When we rescued him, he was breathing normally and was handed over to his mother Viral Savani.”
