Multiple thefts from cars baffle cops

SURAT: Thieves targeting cars are on a rampage in the city. In just 24 hours - from Friday to Saturday evening, they broke into three cars in posh areas and decamped with cash and valuables.
Vaibhav Sutariya, a resident of Falcon Avenue in City Light had gone for dinner with his friend Hitesh Bhatt on Friday evening. Sutariya had parked his car outside a restaurant alongside Parle Point flyover.They returned to the car within 30 minutes and found that the window of the rear door was broken and laptops of both were stolen.
On Saturday at around 9 am, cash of Rs 1 lakh was stolen from the car of Mahendra Pandya parked outside Siddhi Shopping complex in City Light area. Pandya, a resident of Chalthan village had come to City Light for some work and kept the cash in his car. He returned to the car within 10 minutes and found the glass broken. Police registered a complaint against two unidentified miscreants.
In another incident reported exactly after an hour near Majura Gate, Mitesh Kothari lost Rs 1.50 lakh kept in his car. Miscreants broke rear door glass of Kothari's car parked outside Chandanvan Apartment at around 10 am and stole bag with cash Rs 1.50 lakh. They targeted another car parked nearby of Pathik Naik and stole medical kit worth Rs 3,000 from the car. Glass of the car's back door was broken.
In another case, a citizen Ketan Thakkar was cheated by two persons near Bhatar Cross road on Friday evening. The miscreants told Thakkar that there his tyre was punctured. When he got down to check, thye stole his bag containing Rs 1.85 lakh cash from the car. The bag was kept in front seat.
Vidhi Chaudhary, assistant commissioner of police, said, "It seems that all thefts were carried out by miscreants of same group." Police also suspects that a gang which comes to city for thefts and flees after committing crimes in short span to be behind the series of thefts.
