The trader in his complaint alleged that he was contacted by a broker who said that some buyers were looking for a good quality big diamond.
Memon brought a 2.8 carat diamond from Mumbai through his business associates to show to the accused on September 7. The accused showed interest in purchasing the stone and agreed on a price after discussion. The accused told Memon that they will make payment for the diamond after collecting cash from someone in Kapodra.
They asked Memon to accompany them to Kapodra. The accused were on their motorcycle and asked Memon to follow them. Memon followed them but the accused sped away when they reached Varachha. Memon failed to locate the accused who had disappeared from his eyesight over a flyover.
Memon approached police and submitted a complaint against the accused. "We registered his complaint after carrying out a preliminary investigation. We are keeping a watch in the areas frequented by the accused. However, they are on the run," said S J Baloch, police inspector, Lalgate police station.
"The accused were booked recently for another cheating case at Katargam police station. The accused had asked brokers to show them big size diamonds as they wanted to strike big. Two brokers were acting as their mediators but they were unaware about the plan of the accused," said Baloch.
