SURAT: Chairman and managing director (CMD) of
Air India (AI) Ashwani Lohani has announced the launch of Airbus-320 in the morning scheduled between
Surat-Delhi
starting from October 30.
The decision has come following protest by the Surti flyers on social media condemning the decision taken by the Air India (AI) to operate ATR aircraft on Surat-Delhi sector from December 1.
AI CMD conveyed the announcement through
Navsari MP C R Paatil, who met him in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Talking to TOI, Paatil said, "AI CMD has assured to operate Airbus-320 on Surat-Delhi sector in morning schedule starting from October 30. With this, Surat will have two
Airbus
between Surat and Delhi."
Asked whether the AI will replace its CRJ and ATRs from Surat, Paatil said, "The AI is committed to serve the passengers in Surat. The passenger traffic from Surat to Delhi is phenomenal and the AI is earning handsome revenue. However, they want to ramp up facilities for the passengers by providing bigger aircrafts."
Meanwhile, angry flyers from the Diamond City flooded the twitter handle of AI CMD Ashwani Lohani to protest the decision to operate ATR aircraft in the morning session between Surat and Delhi from December 1 on Wednesday.
