BHARUCH: The railway track between Palej to Panoli stations in Bharuch district is considered a killer because 97 people had lost their lives on this 50-km stretch in various accidents in a period of 11 months in 2013.
Railway police record says that a total 110 accidents took place on this track, which resulted in the death of 97 people. Interestingly, 51 people died in a 17-km stretch from Silver Bridge Ankleshwar to Panoli.
Over 50 per cent of persons could not be identified.
The reason for this many fatal accidents on the railway track between Palej to Panoli stations was not known. On October 26, a 30-year-old man lost his life when he came under a goods train while crossing the track. Similarly in accidents on November 4, 6 and 14, two men and one woman were killed.
Police are of the opinion that several people reside near the tracks and accidents happen because of their negligence. In some cases, youngsters sitting near the train gates have lost balance and fallen to their death on the tracks.
