‘They would kill me’: Student’s father claims bottle attack in Himachal 'sexual harassment' case; victim treated at 7 hosps before her death
SHIMLA: A professor and three female students of Govt College, Dharamshala, were named in an FIR following the mysterious death of a 19-year-old student who had alleged sexual harassment and ragging. The woman died in a Ludhiana hospital on December 26, Kangra SP Ashok Ratan said.
“The victim was treated at seven hospitals. We are obtaining treatment records to find out the exact cause of death. Many allegations were levelled, and we are verifying all the facts. A thorough inquiry will be conducted in this case,” Kangra SP Ashok Ratan said.
“This incident troubled her a lot. She kept saying she did not want to go to college as the students would kill her,” her father claimed in a complaint lodged with the Dharamshala police.
In what is believed to be her last recorded video — shot at a Pathankot hospital — the student appears distressed. When asked repeatedly if the professor had touched her inappropriately, she nodded and said, “Yes.”
According to the FIR registered on Thursday, the professor and three female students have been named under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (causing hurt), 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS, and Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of) Ragging Act, 2009.
The father alleged that the harassment began on September 18 last year, when the three female students beat and harassed his daughter during a ragging session. One reportedly hit her with a bottle and cut her hair. “She kept saying she did not want to go to college as the students would kill her,” he added, noting that he had to enrol her in a private computer academy on September 20 to protect her.
Despite multiple medical interventions, her condition continued to worsen. “I took her to a doctor in Dharamshala, and later shifted her to several hospitals,” her father said.
SP Ashok Ratan confirmed that authorities are collecting all hospital records and investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death. “A thorough inquiry will be conducted to verify all facts and allegations,” he added.
The case has raised alarm over ragging and sexual harassment in schools and colleges, with police vowing a detailed investigation into the professor and the three students named in the FIR.
