Stop land transfer to Hry: SAD faction
Shimla: Punjab’s political tensions over Chandigarh’s status have deepened as the SAD Sudhar Lehar requested governor Gulab Chand Kataria to intervene in the central govt’s decision to allocate land to Haryana for a new vidhan sabha. The move, critics warn, could exacerbate historical disputes and strain Punjab-Haryana relations further. The delegation led by Gurpartap Singh Wadala that met Kataria on Friday carried a memorandum that condemned the Centre’s decision of land allocation to Haryana as harmful potentially to Punjab’s interests and its people’s sentiments. “The Centre’s allowing Haryana environmental clearance to exchange 12 acres for 10 in Chandigarh for a separate assembly is a controversial decision that could reignite long-standing regional tensions,” the document reads, referencing the violent political unrest in Punjab during the 1980s.
