SHIMLA: Days after
Congress MLA Pawan Kajal joined the BJP, Congress retaliated by inducting former MLA Surender Kumar alias Kaku into the party. Kaku joined the Congress in New Delhi on Monday.
Many feel there would not be much resentment against Kaku in Congress as it is more of a “homecoming” for him and that he is a strong contender for the party ticket from Kangra assembly seat.
Kaku had parted ways with Congress to join BJP in April 2019, after Kajal joined the party. He has now returned to Congress as he was unhappy with Kajal’s entry into BJP.
Kaku returned to the Congress in the presence of AICC incharge for state Rajeev Shukla, HPCC president Pratibha Singh, leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, working president Harsh Mahajan and AICC secretary Raghubir Singh Bali. He had won the assembly election from Kangra in 2003, defeating Rattan Lal Jagtamba of BJP by 5,033 votes. He had contested the 2007 assembly election on Congress ticket but lost to BSP’s Sanjay Chaudhary. In the 2012 assembly election, he again contested on Congress ticket and lost to independent candidate Pawan Kajal by a margin of 563 votes.
