184 cases filed, over ₹5L fine imposed in HP

Shimla: As many as 184 cases of illegal mining were registered across Himachal Pradesh over the past week, based on complaints received during a special drive. Fines amounting to Rs 5.49 lakh were imposed on the offenders.Sharing this information, state director of industries Yunus, said on Monday, that a statewide campaign has been launched to curb illegal mining activities. He added that the industries department is ensuring public participation to prevent illegal mining.The officer urged citizens to share any information or complaints related to illegal mining with the department through WhatsApp number 08988500249, landline number 0177-2990575, or email at geologicalwing@gmail.com. The director said that prompt action is being ensured on the information shared regarding illegal mining by the citizens.He said that sharing such details not only helps combat illegal mining but also ensures environmental protection. Mining and mineral industries play a vital role in strengthening the state’s economy, added Yunus. He emphasised the need to adhere to policies and rules related to environmental protection and scientific mining during resource extraction. The officer added that preventing illegal mining and safeguarding the environment is a collective responsibility.

167 vehicles checked to prevent illegal mining, transportation of sand

In a crackdown on illegal sand mining, Patna authorities inspected 167 vehicles, including trucks and tractors, on Saturday night. Led by SP Sharath RS, the operation resulted in the seizure of three sand-laden tractors in Bihta. One tractor carried wet sand, another had an expired challan, and the third lacked documentation.

Trichy police book four for illegal sand mining

Four individuals were apprehended by Trichy district police for illegal sand mining activities. A mother-son duo, Pushpavalli and Sudhakar, fled the scene in Anbil, leaving behind a minitruck containing 10 bags of sand. Similarly, Arunraj and Dhinesh abandoned their sand-laden minitruck near Natham. Police seized the vehicles and sand, booking all four under relevant mining and minerals acts.

AYM demands action against illegal rat-hole mining in Tinsukia

The Asomiya Yuva Manch (AYM) has blown the whistle on rampant illegal rat-hole coal mining in Tinsukia district's Ledo-Margherita coal belt. Despite a 2014 ban, over 700 mines operate illegally, endangering lives, with nine miners dead since September 2022.
