SHIMLA: A late-night incident at Jaypee University of Information Technology in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan left an engineering student seriously injured after he allegedly attempted suicide by jumping off a hostel building, police said on Thursday. The incident took place late Wednesday night when the student jumped from the hostel rooftop, sustaining serious injuries. Fellow students noticed the incident and alerted university authorities and police. The student was given first aid and later shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for further treatment. Superintendent of Police (SP) Solan Tirumalaraju SD Varma confirmed the incident and said police have initiated a probe. The situation on campus briefly turned tense as students raised slogans against university authorities following the incident. University officials said they are examining the circumstances that led to the alleged suicide attempt.
