A portion of the retaining wall of a railway bridge over the Chakki river in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, gave way while a passenger train was crossing. Close call on tracks: Colonial-era Chakki railway bridge crumbles beneath moving train in Himachal Pradesh
KULLU: The retaining wall of a railway bridge collapsed partly when a passenger train was over the Chakki river at Dhangu in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The bridge on the main Delhi-Jammu line borders Punjab. Fortunately for the passengers, the entire retaining wall did not collapse, or else there could have been a major tragedy. A railway official said the bridge was still open and repair was about to start.
The colonial-era Chakki railway bridge had washed away partially during Aug 2022's massive flood, and the railways had to then suspend all services on this line.
