Rare cardiac ailment treated at NEIGRIHMS
Shillong: The department of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong has successfully performed a surgery to address a rare cardiac anomaly known as Vieussens’ Ring with coronary artery disease, reports Manosh Das.
“The patient is doing well on follow up.

Only 56 such cases have been reported so far worldwide. Vieussens’ arterial ring is an uncommon cardiac condition, characterised by the abnormal connection between the right and left coronary blood supply of the heart. This anomaly was complicated with coronary artery disease causing impaired blood supply to the heart causing chest pain in the patient,” said a medical bulletin issued by NEIGRIHMS on Friday.
Professor C Daniala, medical superintendent of NEIGRIHMS, congratulated the department for successfully performing such a complex surgery. Professor Nalin Mehta, director of NEIGRIHMS, said it is the only central government hospital in the northeast capable of treating such rare cardiac lesions.
