Meghalaya CM’s wife, 5 others file papers for Gambegre bypolls
Shillong: Ruling National People’s Party (NPP) candidate and chief minister Conrad K Sangma’s wife Mehtab Chandee A Sangma and five other candidates filed their nomination papers on Thursday. Mehtab filed her papers for the Nov 13 Gambegre assembly by-elections in West Garo Hills district.The seat fell vacant after three-time Congress MLA Saleng Sangma defeated sitting Tura MP and Conrad’s sister Agatha Sangma of the NPP to wrest the prestigious parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha elections, earlier this year.As on date, six candidates, including Mehtab (NPP), Jingjang Marak (Congress), Bernard Marak (BJP), All India Trinamool Congress’ (AITC) Sadhiarani Sangma, and two Independents — Sengkrabirth Marak and Jerry Sangma, have filed their nomination papers to contest for the vacant Gambegre assembly seat.The last date of filing nominations is Oct 25 and scrutiny of the papers will be taken up on Oct 28. The date for withdrawal of nominations is Oct 30. Results will be declared on Nov 23.“My priority for the area is development. Healthcare will be another important issue for me,” said Mehtab, after filing her nomination papers in Tura. “Every election we have to work hard. We cannot take anything for granted. Samajwadi Party's Jyoti Bind and Bahujan Samaj Party's Deepak Tiwari filed their nominations for the Majhwan assembly by-election. SP candidate Mujtaba files nomination for Phulpur seat
Samajwadi Party candidate Mujtaba Siddiqui filed his nomination for the Phulpur assembly byelection, highlighting long-standing development issues in the area. He criticized the ruling BJP for inadequate development, rising unemployment, inflation, and other issues. Siddiqui, a resident of Phulpur and backed by the INDIA bloc, expressed confidence in achieving a historic victory.
