BSF hosts Diwali ‘Mela’ in Mawpat

Shillong: BSF Meghalaya on Sunday celebrated Diwali by organizing a grand ‘Mela’ (fair) at their Mawpat campus.“The event was inaugurated by Simran Kaur Dhillon, president of BSF Wives’ Welfare Association (BWWA) of frontier HQ, Meghalaya, who welcomed everyone to an evening filled with festivities and celebration,” a statement from a BSF spokesperson read.“BSF personnel and their families joined in with immense zeal, participating in various games, enjoying food stalls and watching cultural programs, showcasing traditional performances. The ‘Mela’ was designed to bring together the ‘Seema Praharies’, their families and children during the festive season,” the statement said.“Adding to the festive spirit, the fair featured an array of ethnic food stalls, games and a variety of entertainment activities. The highlight of the evening were the performances by the BSF jazz and brass bands, whose music captivated the audience. Additionally, the ever-popular tug-of-war event was a crowd favourite, creating a lively atmosphere as everyone cheered on the participants,” the statement further read.Meanwhile, the BSF on Friday thwarted a major cross-border smuggling attempt, seizing 12 cartons of ointment cream worth over Rs 12 lakh. “Acting on specific information, troops of the 4th Battalion the BSF conducted a special operation near the international border during which they managed to seize cosmetics, concealed in a jungle area, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh,” a BSF statement read, adding that the seized items were handed over to the customs office at Pynursla for necessary action.

West Bengal: BSF tightens security along India-Bangladesh border

In response to the current situation in Bangladesh, the BSF and North Bengal Frontier have heightened security along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Special measures, including in riverine areas, are in place to prevent infiltration. Meanwhile, 385 new female BSF constables were sworn in at the BSF Assistant Training Center in Siliguri.

Punjab: BSF recovers Chinese drones in Amritsar, Tarn Taran

The BSF recovered three China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones in Punjab's Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts, preventing illicit cross-border activities. Additionally, two people were arrested following a gunfight with the Punjab police in Amritsar, seizing two pistols. The arrests are linked to an inter-gang rivalry as per Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

BSF head constable killed in accidental fire in J&Ks Rajouri

In Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, BSF Head Constable Satya Narayan Swami was killed when his service rifle accidentally discharged at a checkpoint in Nowshera. The unfortunate incident led to his immediate death. Local authorities have registered a case and commenced an investigation into the matter.
