Shillong: A four-member family was buried alive when their house was brought down by a rain-induced mudslide in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya on Sunday morning. Later, police dug out the bodies of the father, mother and their two minor children.
A statement by the district administration said, “Due to the incessant rain, a landslide occurred at the Pynthor Langtein village under the Thadlaskein community and rural development block of the West Jaintia Hills district where one house was partially buried by mud.
In the incident, four people lost their lives which included the father, the mother and their two children.”
It added, “The deputy commissioner of the West Jaintia Hills district has been instructed to release ex gratia funds at the rate of Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kin of the deceased immediately. The Thadlaskein C&RD block development has also been directed to render any other immediate assistance if required.”
