Salem Municipal Corporation is wasting Smart City funds by not implementing projects: AIADMK
SALEM: AIADMK councillors in the Salem Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday alleged that the DMK-led Salem Municipal Corporation was wasting Smart City funds to the tune of crores of rupees by not implementing projects. They accused the ruling party of indulging in corruption. The AIADMK councillors, led by opposition leader N Yadavamoorthy, walked out of the council session chaired by mayor A Ramachandran after an argument broke out between them and the ruling party councillors over this issue.Later, speaking to reporters, Yadavamoorthy said no new project was being implemented for the SMC during the DMK regime. “The projects being implemented here are done using the funds allocated by the previous AIADMK govt,” he said.“The DMK govt and the corporation are wasting Smart City funds by not implementing projects, including the solar power generation project and insulators,” he said.He alleged that the SMC was involved in corruption by assigning a private company to collect tax, which should ideally be done by the civic body.
