Woman, lover sentenced to life for killing husband

Dumka: A woman and her boyfriend were awarded life imprisonment by the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge on Saturday for murdering her husband who opposed to their extramarital affair. Judge Anil Mishra also imposed a fine of 50,000 on Gauri Devi and Ravikant Sharma, failing which they would have to spend an additional one year in prison.In 2021, an FIR was lodged with the Saraiyahaat police against Gauri, of Mandaldih village, and her boyfriend Ravikant Sharma of the neighbouring Markunda village for allegedly killing Sonu Poddar, 40. The FIR was lodged on the basis of the statement of village chowkidar Osho Manjhi. The accused duo killed Sonu and hid the body inside an under-construction septic tank in his house.The daughter of the couple, Puja Kumari, also corroborated the FIR, stating her mother had developed a relationship with Ravikant since 2019 when her father went to Gujarat for work. However, after the outbreak of Covid pandemic, she stated, her father came back and came to know about the extramarital affair. When he objected to it the two hatched a plan to kill him.
