Woman Dies After Falling From Moving Bus in Chatra; Driver Negligence Alleged
Chatra: A woman died after she fell while getting down from a bus near Seema Chowk in Chatra district late Saturday, allegedly due to the driver’s negligence, police said.The deceased, identified as Rita Devi (32), was a resident of Seema village in Tandwa block under the Sadar police station limits, police added.Officer in-charge of the Sadar police station, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, said, “Returning home from Chatra, Rita was about to deboard from the bus when the driver allegedly moved the vehicle. With one foot still on the footboard, she lost balance and fell on the road. She sustained critical injuries. Locals rushed her to the Chatra sadar hospital, but she died on the way. The deceased woman had lost her husband earlier. Five minor children — two sons and three daughters — are now orphans.Villagers and relatives placed the body on the Chatra-Simaria Main Road for nearly 10 hours from around 2 am on Sunday, demanding strict action against the driver and adequate compensation for the victim’s family. The blockade led to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road, and left commuters stranded throughout the night. The road block was withdrawn around 11 am on Sunday after circle officer Anil Kumar and OC Singh assured compensation to the deceased woman’s family under govt provisions and support for the children’s upbringing and education, sources said.OC Singh said, “The bus involved in the incident has been seized and legal proceedings initiated against the driver.”
