DHANBAD: A 55-year-old woman, accused of practicing witchcraft, was assaulted and paraded on the streets of
Parmanikdih village
under Jamua block, nearly 35 Km from the district headquarters of Giridih district on Monday.
The victim, in her complaint with
Jamuna police on Tuesday, said she was being regularly tortured by a section of villagers for the past 3 months.
"We had discussed the issue with other villagers in the presence of
Mukhiya
and other panchayat representatives but none of them chose to helped. Instead, I was brutally beaten up and forcibly taken to a nearest temple in their presence.They also forced me to sacrifice a goat and dance without clothes during
Durga Puja in a village temple," the victim said.
"It all started three months ago when some village women fell ill due to different reasons and their kin blamed me for it", the victim added.
"I am not much aware about the incident but if it is true, we will definitely enquire into the matter and take strong action against the culprits", Khorimahua SDM Ravishankar Vidyarthi said. "On the basis of the statement given by the victim and her relatives, a case has been lodged under relevant sections of IPC. We have launched a massive hunt to arrest the culprits", said PS in-charge Kedar Nath Prasad.
