US-Made Bomb Found Near Subernarekha River in Jamshedpur, Third Such Discovery
Jamshedpur: A heavy explosive object, appearing to be a US-made bomb, has been discovered in the East Singhbhum district on Wednesday evening, officials said on Thursday.Almost identical to the two previously recovered AN-M64 500 lb American bombs, recovered on March 17 and 24 respectively, the latest one was found from near the Subernarekha river under Baharagora police station limits. The villagers stumbled upon it while fishing near Panipada village and later alerted the local police.Police have taken control of the area, it said.“Necessary safety measures have been imposed at the site and the villagers have been prohibited from going close to the object,” Baharagora police station in-charge, Shankar Prasad Kushwaha said. The district police will approach the state bomb detection and disposal squad and the Indian Army for a safe and controlled detonation of the explosive.In appearance, the bomb is like an LPG cylinder with its diameter and weight virtually that of the previously recovered explosives.Incidentally, the earlier bombs weighed 226kgs each and were 700mm in height and 30mm in diameter respectively. A15-member specialised team of the Indian Army successfully detonated the bombs on the banks of the river on March 25.
