DHANBAD: A Dhanbad-based owner of a private news channel, News11 Bharat, headquartered in Ranchi, Arup Chatterjee, was arrested by
Dhanbad police from his house in Ranchi around 3 am on Sunday on charges of extortion, blackmailing, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Chatterjee, who claimed innocence and said he was being arrested for highlighting the illegal coal trade in Dhanbad, was produced before the court of judicial magistrate, Vishal Raj, in Dhanbad and forwarded to 14-day judicial custody.

Sanjeev Kumar said, “A case was lodged at Govindpur police station under sections 193, 386, 387, 418, 420, 468, 469, 500, 503, and 120(B) of the IPC against Chatterjee on July 27 based on a written complaint by businessman
Rakesh Kumar. A police team led by SDPO Amar Kumar Pandey raided his Kanke Road residence under Gonda police station and he was arrested. Later, he was taken to Saraidhela police station in Dhanbad. Another coal trader, Parmeshwar Nath Rai alias Manager Rai, has been made co-accused in the case and he will be nabbed soon.”
