Bokaro: A man, in his late 40s, and his minor son died when their two-wheeler was hit by a speeding pick-up van on Bahadurpur-Jainamore stretch of National Highway-23 on Monday. The deceased were identified as Chandan Turi and his 13-year-old son, Devendra Kumar. Chandan’s wife, Lalita Devi, is currently admitted to Bokaro sadar hospital, said police.
The three were returning home in Kasmar block in Bokaro on bike when they were hit by a vegetable-laden pickup van after it lost control near Badkawan.
After the incident, other family members and local residents resorted to protest with the bodies on the road demanding compensation and arrest of the driver. The protest was later lifted after a few hours after administrative officials assured compensation to the deceased kin. The blockade led to long traffic snarls on the busy route for a few hours.
Circle officer of Jaridih, Rituraj, who went to the spot, said, “The family was returning home after celebrating Jitiya festival. The collision was so severe that the father and the son died on the spot.”
