RANCHI: Hundreds of street vendors went on a day long strike and protest march on Monday demanding formation of a proper town vending committee and providing proper rehabilitation facility to them.

Anita Das of

Ranchi Footpath Dukandar Sangh

said, "The rules say that 40% members of the town vending committee need to be street vendors. However, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (

RMC

) has formed a committee which does not consist of a single representation of street vendors."

Das said the city's 6,700 vendors has demand to dissolve the current town vending committee and form a proper committee having vendors' representation.

The street vendors are also upset about RMC's plans to shift street vendors from their vending spots.
