RANCHI: Hundreds of Kanke residents on Saturday took out a 4-km march with placards against the newly-enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (
CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (
NRC) between Bajartand and the block office here.
Organised by Kanke Kshetra Eka Manch (KKEM), the protesters marched silently with placards that bore anti-CAA messages like ‘Samvidhan Bachao, Desh Bachao’ on them.
Rameez Khan, a graduation student said, “Muslims have always suffered either because of Congress’ appeasement politics or BJP’s attempt to marginalise. Yet, we never grew intolerant. We did not hit the streets after the Ram Mandir judgment. We request the Union government to stop targeting us.”
Muhammad Toshib, who alleged that the Centre is targeting Muslims, said, “Government’s plan to bring in CAA, NRC and NPR is to systematically uproot Muslims from India. We will fight until these laws are rolled back. We will not allow them to make India a
Hindu
Rashtra.”
KKEM also submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India before the circle officer of Kanke Block. Through the memo
randum, they also condemned police action on the students of Jamia Milia Islamia for raising their voice against CAA and NRC.
A member of KKEM, Noor Alam said, “Though CAA has been implemented, it will not affect our spirit to oppose it till it is scrapped
