Dumka: Irate locals of a village in

Sahibganj

district resorted to vandalism and stone-pelting against a police check-post after a 65-year-old woman was crushed to death by a speeding truck carrying stone chips on Tuesday.
Police said Kajal Devi died on the spot near Bhagaiya which originally falls under

Mehrma

police station in neighbouring Godda district bordering Sahibganj and Bhagalpur in Bihar. The village is now under the

Mirjachouki

police station of Sahibganj.
Soon after the incident, hundreds of locals put up a blockade on the Bhagaiya-Firojpur road against rash driving by trucks regularly on this route. When the police came to remove the blockade, the locals resisted and started pelting stones and vandalizing many vehicles, including police vans.
Police said no one received severe injuries in the incident.
Godda SP

Nathu Singh Meena

said, “The road blockade was enforced by a section of villagers following the death of a woman but we cleared it soon. Later, a mob resorted to vandalism at a police check post bordering Mirjachouki police station in Sahibganj district."
Inspector

Sashi Bhushan Choudhary

said by the time the police check-post was vandalised there were no cops there. “Efforts are on to identify the culprits involved in attacking the police check-post and damaging the vehicles,” he said.
