JAMSHEDPUR: Refusing to buy the Bihar police's theory that Jamshedpur girl Sneha Singh committed suicide in her hotel room in Munger on Monday, friends of the Xavier Institute of Social Sciences-Ranchi alumna and former radio jockey have created a
Facebook page, 'Justice for Sneha', seeking support from netizens to press for a fair probe into the mysterious death of the 25-year-old.
Sneha's semi-naked body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in a Munger hotel. She was currently working with the
Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society, which is an independent society set up by the Bihar government and supported by the World Bank. Sneha was in Munger in connection with official work.
While Munger SP Navin Chandra Jha on Wednesday told a section of the media that the report of postmortem on the girl found it to be a case of suicide, not rape and murder, her friends and family fear she was raped and murdered. "Why should a girl undress herself before ending her life?" one of her friends asked and added she was a bubbly girl, not the kind who would commit suicide. Her father B P Singh told newsmen the autopsy report had been manipulated.
Though flat number 205 at the Madhusudan Vihar residential complex at Sonari in Jamshedpur was locked on Thursday as all the family members were in Munger for the last rites of Sneha, Singhs' neighbours also expressed unwillingness to accept that the "decent and determined" girl would end her life. "I just cannot believe Sneha committed suicide. She was a promising girl," said Kumkum Jha, a homemaker who stays on the top floor of the building.
Kumkum, in her late thirties, said Sneha was successful even when she worked with an FM channel in Ranchi as a radio jockey.
"She was probably the most popular RJ in the Jharkhand capital. She was a lively girl, full of enthusiasm and energy and always willing to take on challenges. Why will she commit suicide?" Kumkum asked.
Sneha's immediate neighbour, a middle-aged woman who has just returned from the United States, said Sneha was a frequenter to her home till she left for Ranchi a few years ago.
"She was a positive person, a career woman who aspired to conquer all the challenges of life," the neighbour said.
