The recent
rape and beheading of a three-year-old toddler in Steel City has been severely criticised by Bollywood filmmakers and actors with Jamshedpur born Bollywood director
Arif Ali coming down heavily on the rapists arrested in the case.
The head of the child is still missing and a search is still on, rail SP Ehtesham Waquarib said.
Speaking to TOI, Arif on Saturday said, “Even capital punishment would be less for the rapists involved in this case.”
Arif, who is Bollywood director Imtiyaz Ali’s brother, added, “It is extremely sad that the incident took place in Jamshedpur, the city where I hail from.
Steel City’s image has been tarnished after this incident.”
Arif recalled how Jamshedpur was quite safe for women during his school days. He expressed concern over the changing situation in the city along with other places.
The director of ‘Lekar Hum Deewnae Dil’ added, “Until the mindset of men changes towards women, rapes cannot be stopped just by making laws.”
He also said, “The way the kid has been killed after rape makes me lose my sleep.” Arif also asked if the severed head of the child was found.
The girl’s rape has disturbed other Bollywood celebrities as well. Actor Anushka Sharma, in her tweet said, “A three-year-old girl who was sleeping beside her mother at a railway station was kidnapped, gang raped and beheaded in Jamshedpur. This is so inhuman and vile, it is literally making me shake in anger. Absolutely horrifying.”
In another tweet, Sharma demanded justice for the victim and said, “I hope and wish and urge justice is brought upon this atrocity at the earliest. And a punishment so severe that anyone else shudders to commit such a heinous, demonic crime! (sic)”
Retweeting Anushka’s tweet, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha expressed concern over the incident.
