Ranchi: Students wings have raised concern over security environment in Ranchi University’s (RU) educational campuses and demanded measures like deployment of women security guards and installation of more closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in this regard.
Notably, in the recent past the governor’s secretariat had also written letter to the universities asking them to install more CCTVs for better surveillance of the people visiting and moving in the their campuses.
On Friday, a group of students representing All India Student’s Association (AISA) staged a protest in front of Doranda College accusing that male security guards deployed in its campus have in some instances used derogatory languages against girl students on their clothing, design and colours.
AISA state president Vibha said that women guards must be appointed in college campus and should be trained for increasing their gender sensitivity.
When contacted, college principal RK Sharma stated, “ The college administration was already mulling over keeping women guards in the campus. There are thousands of girl students in my college. In some cases the male guards face difficult in controlling them when they fight with each other.”
When contacted, RU spokesperson and deputy director vocational courses Smriti Singh stated, “The university has taken measures as per the recommendations of University Grants Commission. There is an internal committee at university level to receive complaints related to crime against girl students and its contact number and e-mails have been displayed at public places.”
