Ranchi Schools: Unrecognized Institutions Face Closure Deadline April 8 for Mandatory Recognition
Ranchi: In a regulatory push to tighten oversight, the Ranchi administration has warned unrecognised private and non-govt schools of strict action, including possible closure, if they fail to obtain mandatory recognition by April 8.
The directive targets all institutions running Classes 1 to 8 without formal approval under provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act and the Jharkhand RTE Rules, 2011 (amended in 2019 and 2025).
Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring compliance with norms related to infrastructure, qualified teachers, student enrolment and safety standards.
DC Manjunath Bhajantri has directed all such schools to register and submit their applications online through the official portal by the deadline. The authorities have emphasised that institutions must upload complete and accurate details regarding facilities such as classrooms, sanitation, drinking water and safety arrangements, along with staff qualifications and student data.
“All school operators and principals are urged to take this directive seriously and complete the application process within the given timeline to make their institutions compliant with the law. This is essential to safeguard the academic interests of students and ensure quality education,” the DC said.
To facilitate the process, the department has made a user manual and recognition certificate format available online. Officials said this would help schools navigate the application procedure and avoid last-minute errors. “Schools failing to apply or falling short of prescribed standards may face action under existing rules, including shutdowns,” an official statement read.
