Ranchi Railway Station Redevelopment: South Side to Open by March, World-Class Facilities Incoming
Ranchi: Ranchi railway division is aiming to complete the ongoing redevelopment project on the southern side of Ranchi railway station by the end of March this year, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Karuna Nidhi Singh. The DRM added that the redeveloped station will feature various new facilities, providing a world-class ambience to passengers visiting the station. The foundation stone of the Rs 447 crore redevelopment project was laid in July 2022 by PM Narendra Modi from Deoghar. Upon completion, the station will have two three-storey buildings on its north and south sides, which will be connected by a road overbridge. “The ongoing works on the south side of the station are most likely to be completed by the end of March. The works on the building are at the finishing stage. The new building will feature separate entry and exit gates for passengers, and a vast parking area spanning around 14,000 square metres. The building will feature food courts, restaurants, and well-equipped lounge areas,” the DRM said. There will be 10 new lifts and 17 escalators to ease the movement of divyang passengers, a mechanised parcel handling system, and an elevated concourse to house cafeterias, restaurants, and rest rooms. Singh said after completion of work on the south side, work on the north side will begin, adding, “Once the existing setup is shifted to the new building, the existing building on the north side will be demolished and the second phase will start. We are hoping that the north side will be ready for use by 2027 end.”
