Ranchi Mosquito Elimination Drive Launched to Combat Vector-Borne Diseases
Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation on Saturday rolled out a mosquito-elimination drive to prevent vector-borne diseases in the state capital. The special drive was rolled out from Ward number 3 and covered Morabadi, Soren Kunj, Tagore Hill Road and Chiraundi.
The campaign began with an intensive focus on anti-larval spraying, fogging, and sanitation measures. Teams carried out door-to-door inspections to detect mosquito larvae, cleaned clogged drains, and undertook large-scale trimming of bushes and overgrown grass. The operation deployed three cold fogging machines, 50 knapsack sprayers, 10 brush cutters, and a workforce of around 30 sanitation workers.
In a statement, the RMC said, “This is a targeted intervention to control mosquito breeding at the source. With the seasonal transition, the risk of diseases like dengue increases, and preventive action is critical.” Alongside field operations, civic teams conducted awareness drives, informing residents about preventive measures. “People often assume mosquitoes breed only in dirty water, but dengue mosquitoes grow in clean stagnant water and bite during the day.,” said ward no. 3 councillor Basanti Lakra. Residents stressed on the need for sustained efforts. “Fogging happens occasionally, but regular cleaning of drains and strict monitoring are more important. We hope RMC continues this drive,” said Ram Dayal, a vendor in Morabadi.
