Ranchi Monsoon Preparedness: RMC Accelerates Drainage Projects to Combat Waterlogging
Ranchi: With the monsoon approaching, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has accelerated drainage construction and repair work in several areas of the city prone to waterlogging as part of its seasonal preparedness plan.
Civic officials said that the focus is on improving stormwater flow in city neighbourhoods that have witnessed recurring inundation during heavy rainfall in previous years. The work includes construction of new drains, drain widening, connectivity projects and desilting of existing channels.
According to data shared by the corporation, seven drain connection projects have been completed so far, while 12 have been allotted and 19 are currently under construction across multiple wards, including ward numbers 3, 9, 31 and 52.
An official communiqué shared by RMC on Tuesday said that the corporation has identified low-lying and sensitive locations based on past monsoon patterns and field inspections. “Drainage work is being prioritised in areas where waterlogging has been repeatedly reported. Along with new construction, old and damaged drainage lines are also being repaired to improve water discharge before rainfall,” the statement read.
The statement further added that among the recently completed works are RCC drains with slab near CD-type and B-type quarters in ward 40, a drain at Shiv Mandir Marg in ward 52, drainage work from Sahi Jama Masjid to Kidzee School via Maya Niwas in Kusum Vihar under ward 4, and RCC drains in Bariatu connecting Medica Hospital More to Tulsi Apartment and onward to Morga Maidan in ward 6. Another drain with a slab near Nirmal Awas in ward 38 has also been completed.
