Ranchi Collectorate Elevators Inaugurated: Improved Accessibility for Visitors
Ranchi: Deputy commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri on Thursday inaugurated five elevators — two at Block A and remaining at Block B — at the Ranchi collectorate, bringing relief to hundreds of visitors, officials and staff members visiting the office every day.
TOI had on Jan 31 highlighted the issue in a report, drawing attention to the inconvenience faced by the public due to the non-operational lift.
The elevators are equipped with a self-rescue mechanism, assisting people to reach the nearest floor in instances of power supply disruptions, thereby enabling safe exit.
The DC, inaugurating the elevators, said, “A large number of citizens visit the Collectorate daily for various purposes. The new elevators will greatly facilitate people in reaching offices located on different floors. This will provide significant relief, particularly to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, and visitors travelling from remote areas.”
The lift remained out of operation for a long time, causing significant inconvenience, particularly to elderly citizens and physically challenged persons who climbed multiple floors to access different departments.
Apart from the commoners, supporters and candidates of the recently concluded RMC election faced significant inconvenience while completing their election process.
The non-functional elevators earlier compelled visitors to the collectorate to use staircases to reach upper floors, often while carrying bundles of documents. The collectorate, being the hub of district administration, receives thousands of people daily, leaving them to face inconvenience. Moreover, work on three additional elevators is currently underway within the Collectorate complex and is expected to be completed shortly.
