RANCHI: President
Droupadi Murmu on Sunday shifted Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais as the governor of Maharashtra. Sources in the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan said Bais is likely to take charge of the top constitutional post in Maharashtra after February 16.
In Jharkhand, C P
Radhakrishnan will be the 10th governor of the state when he takes the oath of office. Radhakrishnan is a two-time former BJP MP from Coimbatore in
Tamil Nadu.
Bais was sworn in as the ninth governor of the state on July 14, 2021. His nearly two-year tenure was marked by frequent run-ins with the Hemant Soren-led coalition government of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and RJD.
Hours after being appointed in his new role, Bais drove down to the home of JMM president Shibu Soren and visited him after the latter returned from hospital following treatment for a mild respiratory infection. Both the Sorens and Bais have a photo session during the latter’s visit.
In a tweet in the evening, the junior Soren said, “I extend my hearty congratulations to Shri C P Radhakrishnan on behalf of Jharkhand’s people on his appointment as the new governor of Jharkhand. You are welcome to the land of valour. Many congratulations to Bais for being appointed as the governor of Maharashtra.”
While the JMM refused to comment on Bais’s appointment, its ally Congress issued a measured response.
