Presidential visit to Jamshedpur: President Murmu to attend Ol Chiki script event; Also participating in NIT-Jamshedpur's 15th convocation
Jamshedpur: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit the two adjoining industrial towns of Jamshedpur and Adityapur on December 29. Coming on a day’s visit, President Murmu will attend the centenary year programme of the discovery of Ol Chiki script at Disom Jaher at Karandih in Sundernagar.
She will deliver a speech on the concluding day of the week-long seminar on the promotion of Santhali script on December 29.
Created in 1925 by Pandit Ragunath Murmu to promote Santhali language and culture, Ol Chiki, a distinct script, is a token of identity and literature of the tribals.
Following her hour-long stay at Karandi, Murmu will visit National Institute of Technology (NIT-Jamshedpur) to take part in the 15th convocation of the engineering institute and will hand gold medals and degrees to the pass out students.
"The convocation programme will be held at the new auditorium in the campus," said NIT spokesperson Sunil Bhagat.
Founded in 1960, the Regional Institute of Technology (RIT) was upgraded to NIT in 2002. The engineering school was declared Institute of National Eminence (INE) in 2007.
Notably, Murmu is coming to the city for the first time after becoming the President. East Singhbhum DC Karn Satyarthi on Sunday also visited the programme site at Karandi to make physical inspection of the site and take stock of the situation.
The DC gave appropriate direction to the police and civil administration to make proper arrangements pertaining to safety and security, vehicle parking, medical facility, drinking water, toilet, etc.
The diversion route for the vehicles on the Bistupur-Jugsalai-Karandih route will be done by the traffic police.
Deputy SP (traffic) has been asked to prepare the route chart of the President’s convoy. Deployment of security forces along the route will be done. An alternative route for the President will be planned. The district control room has been asked to keep regular watch of the area and increase police patrolling.
