Ranchi: BNR Chanakya Hotel echoed with spurts of laughter on Saturday evening as poets spared no one in their satirical jibes at politicians and others at Hasya Hungama.

Organized by the Times of India in association with CCL, the

Jharkhand

government's public relations department, Reliance Industries and others, the two-hour event kept the audience hooked till the very end.

The audience and dignitaries present broke into fits of laughter as Jabalpur based Sudeep Bhola opened the show, taking a satirical jibe at the political scenario in New Delhi. His poems, blended into popular Bollywood numbers featuring Sunny Leone and satirizing Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's verbal duel with PM Narendra Modi.

Heavy downpour did little to deter the crowd from enjoying Lucknow based Sarvesh Ashthana's satirical poems, specially his take on eminent political personalities' habit of naming the streets.

Asthana's poem on the 'Bada Babus' of the Jharkhand police who do not have any clue on major incidents garnered heavy applause.

Haryana based poet Manjit Singh made his funny observation on the way men and women, especially married couples, differ in their styles of clapping. Singh's self-deprecatory humour on his own appearance let out peals of laughter from the audience.

Among other poets present at the event were Ehsaan Qureshi and Gauri Mishra.

The Hasya Hungama bandwagon will roll into coal town Dhanbad on Sunday. The three-hour event, scheduled at Dhanbad Club, is expected to draw heavy footfall.

The annual event of Hasya Kavi Sammelan gives Hindi poets an opportunity to use their creativity in de-stressing their audience.
