Garhwa: The district administration has detected over 37,000 fake beneficiaries of public distribution schemes across the district in a recent survey.
District supply officer (DSO) Ram Gopal Pandey said, "A total 37,740 ration card holders have been identified fake which comprise around 1.5 lakh members. Despite being well-off, several people have been procuring ration showing themselves to be living below the poverty line."
Pandey said the names of ineligible beneficiaries will now be deleted from the lists while the drive will continue in the coming weeks.
District supply officials have detected 22,000 card holders who have not been procuring ration since February this year. There are over 10.57 lakh beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act in the district who monthly ration using more than 2.29 lakh ration cards.
"We make efforts to provide ration to the deserving households. The list of cardholders is being revised," Pandey said.
