NEP 2025-29 Admissions Low in Daltonganj Govt Colleges, High in Affiliated Institutions

Daltonganj: Admissions to the first year of the four-year degree course under the National Education Policy (NEP) for the session 2025-29 remained low in govt degree colleges under the Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj, university sources said.

Among the 24 degree colleges affiliated to the university, one college recorded fewer than 50 first-year admissions, the sources said. Govt Mahila Degree College at Dharampur in Latehar district had 46 admissions in the 2025-29 session, they added.


Two more govt degree colleges recorded fewer than 100 admissions, while Govt Model Degree College, Garhwa, had 96 admissions, and Govt Degree College at Chhaterpur had 97 admissions. The Govt Degree College at Hussainabad had 166 admissions in the 2025-29 session, which was slightly better than some of the colleges, which had 46, 96 and 97 admissions.

In contrast, the old affiliated colleges recorded what university sources described as an overstock of admissions. SSJN College, Garhwa, had 1,890 admissions; BS College, Latehar, had 1,280; GCP Agrawal College, Chhaterpur, had 2,964; and AK Singh College, Hussainabad, had 2,190 admissions.

While the National Gross Enrolment Ratio is 28.4%, Jharkhand’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) stands at 18.6%, according to the All India Survey of Higher Education for the year 2021-22. Jharkhand’s GER is 4% down from the GER of Andaman Nicobar, the survey report also said.

Speaking on the poor admissions in the govt degree colleges, the vice-chancellor of the university, Dinesh Kumar Singh, said, “There should be equity in admissions. It’s 46, 96, 97 in govt degree colleges, while the old affiliated colleges are overflowing with admissions.”

“The university spends a sizeable amount on the security, maintenance, and remuneration of the teachers and staff of these govt degree colleges, and such poor intake of admissions is no less than a huge burden on the university,” the VC said.

Asked about old affiliated colleges that raised objections blaming the university for blocking the Chancellor’s Portal for admission even as newer govt degree colleges had access to the same portal during the same period, the VC said, “It’s not an issue. If the Lok Bhavan asks for the admission window to be opened again, the university will comply with it .”

“Had the Chancellor’s Portal not opened exclusively for the govt degree colleges, we fear these colleges would be in a far worse position in terms of admissions than what these colleges are now,” the VC added.
