Jamshedpur: A 37-year-old man was killed by suspected Maoists in West Singhbhum district late on Friday. The deceased Ramesh Champia alias Chamra was a resident of Roigutu village under Chotanagra police station limits and was engaged with a construction company which is building roads in Saranda forest and Goilkera areas, the police said on Saturday.
Late on Friday, a group of armed suspected Maoists arrived at Roigutu village and called Champia out of his house. Then, he was taken to a nearby spot and stabbed to death, preliminary probe has revealed. Champia’s body was then left in the middle of Goilkera-Manoharpur main road and his assailants fled the scene. Police sources claimed that Champia’s links with the Maoists are also being investigated.
West Singhbhum SP Amit Renu said, “It is a handiwork of the suspected Maoists. The deceased too has a criminal past. However, his association with the Maoists is a matter of investigation. Further probe is on.”
