Chatra: Two days after the body of a woman was recovered from Lobga Kasiadih forest in Simaria block, her husband was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing her.
The deceased has been identified as Savita Devi (24). Simaria police had taken Savita's husband, Krishna Mahto, into custody after her parents suspected him of killing her. During interrogation, Krishna admitted to killing her leading to his formal arrest on Saturday, police said.
Simaria sub-divisional police officer Ashok Priyadarshi said, “Savita and Krishna got married a year ago. He is a driver by profession and a native of Kishunpur village in Tandwa block. But soon after the marriage, Savita started having an affair with one of Krishna’s friends. When he came to know about it, a village panchayat was called a few months ago to settle the dispute. Savita later abandoned Krishna's house and shifted to her parents’ home.”
Recently, Krishna again began talking to Savita and gifted her a new mobile. “He called her in Kasiadih forest under Banasadi panchayat in Simaria stating that he wanted to patch things up. When Savita reached there on Tuesday, Krishna and his friend Chotu attacked her and they hit her head with a stone killing her on the spot. Her body was dumped in a stream there. Both fled from the spot thereafter,” Priyadarshi said.
“We are also looking for Krishna’s friend who was involved in the crime,” he added.
