Garhwa: At least a dozen persons, mostly children in the age group of six months and seven years, are reported to have died of malaria in several villages under Bhandaria block of Garwha district during the last 10 days.
Reports reaching here said among those who fell prey to the disease include Akash Kumar (6), Shatrughun Kumar (5), Vijay Manjhi (7) Muni Kumari (3), Anju Kumari (4), Anil Kisan (1) Anima Kumari (6 months), Jangali Minz (65), Lakhan Korwa (60) and a 55-year-old woman.
Sources said villages where malaria has spread include Nauka, Turer and Bhajna. Bhandaria medical officer Sanjit Anand said the main reason behind deaths was that the people living in rural areas first go to quacks for treatment and come to the hospital when patients become critical.
Anand has appealed to villagers to go to the primary health centre or referral hospital for treatment immediately when people fall sick.
