Low cost gastrointestinal surgeries at Ranchi sadar hospital from next year
Ranchi: The Ranchi sadar hospital will start a dedicated gastrointestinal (GI) surgery department offering advanced surgical facilities. The initiative will be implemented under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, under which specialist services will be provided by private doctors within the govt healthcare system.
Hospital authorities said that the process for appointing specialist doctors have been recently conducted, and services are likely to begin next year. Doctors said surgical procedures will be available to patients at affordable costs. Several high-cost GI surgeries, which are currently available only in private hospitals, will now be performed at the govt-run hospital.
Ranchi civil Surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar said, "It will bring major relief to patients from economically weaker sections, who are often forced to seek treatment in private facilities due to the unavailability of specialised services in govt hospitals. The gastroenterology department is not operational even at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, underlining the importance of the new department."
Moreover, nephrology services at the hospital are being expanded in view of the rising number of kidney-related cases. The recruitment process for an additional nephrologist was completed, and from the New Year, two nephrology specialists will provide services together. Currently, the nephrology outpatient department operates only two days a week, but from next month it will function six days a week. Prabhat said, "This expansion will substantially reduce waiting time for dialysis patients and improve continuity of care for those suffering from chronic kidney diseases."
Dr Bimlesh Kumar Singh, deputy medical superintendent at the hospital, said that in addition to the gastro surgeon and nephrologists, the hospital will also soon provide services of a neurologist and an MD physician. “The number of patients visiting the hospital is increasing day by day, making it necessary to strengthen the availability of specialist doctors. The addition of these services will reduce the need for patients to travel to Rims or expensive private hospitals for treatment,” he added.
